What does “Downtime” really mean in regard to facial treatments and peels?
When booking in a treatment at Pamper Parlour Skin and Beauty it’s imperative to consider your schedule and events and how they line up with your treatments.
‘Downtime’ is a term used to describe the healing and cellular repair period your skin goes through after any treatment. This can involve anything such as redness, warmth, oedema/swelling or peeling and flaking.
Downtime differs between the services that are provided to you, and the intensity of your downtime will depend on the strength of the peel that you receive. Certain stronger peels and treatments will also require your skin to go through a “Preparation” phase, where we slowly introduce products and ingredients into your home skincare routine to get your skin slowly used to the ingredients. This ensures your skin can heal during downtime in the safest and most comfortable way possible.
When perusing the skin peels menu, you’ll see terms used such as No downtime, Mild downtime, Moderate downtime and Intense downtime. So what do these mean?
No Downtime
This means no healing required. You’re “good to go” so to speak, your skin will feel instantly hydrated, glowing and fresh. These treatments are fantastic prior to an event.
What to expect:
Light pinkness in your skin for 3-4 hours post treatment, but no flaking or peeling in the days after. Makeup may be applied after 12 hours.
Mild Downtime
This means minor healing required.
What to expect:
It is normal to experience redness in the skin for 1-2 hours post treatment, and a light surface flaking may occur for 2-3 days after treatment.
No Makeup for 24 hours
Moderate Downtime
Medium downtime required, It will take a few days for your skin to heal however it wont impair your day-to-day life

Light flaking or peeling will appear 1-2 days after treatment and can last between 3-5 days
Intense Downtime
There is a healing process involved in these intense treatments. Your skin has undergone serious correction and will need some TLC to repair and recover before you see results. You’ll need to follow strict homecare instructions provided by your skin therapist.
What to expect:
Redness immediately after treatment, this can last from one day to one week, depending on the treatment you receive and the individual health of your skin.
Skin can feel hot/sunburnt, tight and/or itchy for 24-48 hours post treatment.
Oedema/swelling can be present for up to 24 hours post treatment.
Flaking and peeling can begin 1-2 days post treatment and typically last anywhere from 5-14 days.
At Pamper Parlour, It is our priority to minimise any discomfort during or after a skin treatment. We will always discuss a treatment plan with you and recommend products for you to use on your skin before and after a treatment to maintain skin integrity and health.
